Music, lectures, food and theatrical performances. These are just some of the activities planned around the regiona this month as Central Jersey residents, educators and private organizations get ready to mark February as Black History Month,

Middlesex County College

Following is a listing of Black History Month events at the college. The events are sponsored by The Office of Student Activities, 732-906-2569. The College Center is at 2600 Woodbridge Ave., Edison. There will be free tote bags and educational books for those that participate.

Theatre Trip: “Porgy and Bess,” Feb. 2. Bus leaves Lot 2 at 5 p.m. Tickets on sale for students with valid ID, two per person, $30 each.

Black History Month Opening Ceremony, 11 a.m. Feb. 6, College Center, Café C. Featuring lecture by Jessie Epps. Free refreshments.

Film: “Invictus,” 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 7, College Center, Main Lounge.

Film: “Pride,” 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 9, College Center, Main Lounge.

Lecture and workshop, “A Journey Through Stereotypes,” 11 a.m. Feb. 13. College Center, Corral. Free lunch.

Valentine’s Day Special Event, Film: “Valentine’s Day,” 11 a.m. Feb. 14, College Center, Main Lounge. Free Lunch and prizes.

Film: “Why Did I Get Married,” 2 p.m. Feb. 14, College Center, Main Lounge.

Film: “Madea’s Family Reunion,” 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 15, College Center, Main Lounge

Jazz performance featuring: Keith Marks, noon Feb. 16, College Center, Main Lounge.

Bus Trip to Philadelphia to the Johnson House and the African American Museum, Feb. 18. Bus leaves Lot 2 at 11 a.m.; returns to Middlesex County College at 6:30 p.m. Tickets on sale for students with valid ID, two per person, starting Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. for $10 each.
