A sinister painting by Nazi monster Adolf Hitler is to go under the hammer for the first time since he painted it nearly 100 years ago.
The brooding seascape is listed for sale by online auctioneers Darke in Slovakia is expected to sell for more than £10,000.
Painted in 1913 while a young Hitler was struggling to make a career as an artist, the 24inch by 19inch canvas shows a dark sea lit up only by a moon about to be shrouded by black clouds.
‘Nocturnal Sea’: Painted by Hitler in 1913, the ‘extremely rare’ painting is set to fetch £10,000
Germany’s wartime dictator had previously struggled to make a career as an artist
Experts say Hitler often painted night scenes to sell to tourists.
The painting has been put up for auction by a Slovak family who inherited it from a relative after the end of World War II.
Auctioneer Jaroslav Krajnak explained: ‘The family inherited the painting after WWII from a relative and decided they wanted to get rid of it. ‘This is extremely rare and we expect a fair bit of interest.’
‘We all know he was an evil monster, but he was also an aspiring artist,’ he added.
A second painting by Germany’s wartime dictator – dating back to 1915 – was sold by the same auction house last month for £10,200.
For sale: Shown here on the auctioneer’s website is another Hitler painting ‘The Secret Meeting’ which sold last month for £10,200
Titled The Secret Meeting and signed A. Hitler it shows robed and hooded monks meeting and studying in what looks like a chapel with a huge crucifix of Christ on the cross.
‘There is a sinister feel to the work
and you can see that, even then, he had no love for the church or
religion. The monks are almost grotesque, cartoon characters plotting
away in the background,’ said one expert.
Auctioneer
Krajnak explained: ‘Hitler worked with oil, ink and watercolours. These
works came from the collection of a Slovak collector who inherited it
from his grandparents. They probably worked in Vienna.’
Hitler
was rejected three times as a pupil by the prestigious Academy of Fine
Arts in Vienna before giving up his studies and turning to politics
after serving as a soldier in the trenches in World War

I’m going to get red arrowed for this, but I like that painting. But just because I like the painting doesn’t mean I like Hitler.

Hitler was sinister. The painting is fairly ordinary.

That’s actually a pretty good painting. Certainly better art than the specimens produced by tracy vermin or damien hirst.

What is sinister about that? Lots of artists paint scenes just like it. Just because it is signed A Hitler.

Exactly how is this painting “sinister”?? just because one so-called expert says so? I don’t think so , I think it’s a nice piece and shows a calm tranquility.

A painting by Hitler?! I would expect it to be worth substantially more than just £10,000!

It is a perfectly nice and competent painting; would you describe it as eerie or sinister if you did not know who the artist was? How would you describe it if the less competent Winston Churchill had painted it?
