ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.
On Saturday, Milton High School will host a Run for Cover 5K which will begin at 3:00 p.m. Run organizers are asking participants to bring new or gently used articles of winter clothing or some type of non-perishable food item to be donated to North Fulton County charities. Registration for the run costs $25 and registration will be held on site. Milton High School is located at 13025 Birmingham Highway in Milton.
The Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam is in town on Saturday at the Georgia Dome. Popular trucks like the Gravedigger, Madusa, El Toro Loco, Gunslinger and Black Stallion as they fight to become the King of the Dirt at the Dome. Tickets to this event start at $20 and get up to $60. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and select Advance Auto Parts locations.
Head out to Marietta for “Sing Along with Mamma Mia” night at the Strand Theatre. This screening isn’t for the faint of heart, so bring your ABBA lyrics and get ready to harmonize with everyone else in the theatre. The movie features Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth and it starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are eight dollars for adults, seven dollars for children, students, seniors.
HGTV will be holding tryouts for season three of the “All American Handyman”. The show is searching for men or women, who have the ability to make quick fixes, solve problems and “know their way around a tool box”. If you think you fit the bill, try out for the show at the W Atlanta in Midtown tomorrow between 10:00 a.m. and noon. The W-Midtown is located at 188 14th Street in Midtown.
The Alliance Theatre is hosting Tony Award winner Jasmine Guy in her new play, Gods of Carnage. The production is a “darkly funny look at the relationships between spouses and friends and what happens when the smallest things end up pushing us completely over the edge”. The play was written by Yasmina Reza and is being directed by Kent Gash. It’s not recommended for the younger audience and it’ll be shown until January 29th. The Alliance Theatre is located at 1280 Peachtree Street in NE Atlanta.
Check out the High Museum’s Picasso to Warhol exhibit, this weekend. The exhibit will showcase approximately 100 works of the most iconic artists from the 20th century like Pablo Picasso, Matisse, Romare Bearden and many others. Admission to the exhibition is $18 per person. The High Museum is located at 1280 Peachtree Street in Midtown.
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is holding a job fair for about fifty retail jobs on Sunday afternoon. The job fair will be held at the Holiday Inn – Airport South. Job applicants should have prior customer service or retail experience. Most of the positions begin at $9 per hour. Attendees are encouraged to bring a resume and dress in business attire. The Holiday Inn is located at 4669 Airport Boulevard in College Park.
Travelling Broadway musical, Annie will make a stop in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre on Saturday. The musical is, almost, identical to the movie starring a redhead orphan and chronicling her hardships as such. Tickets to the show range between $25 and $65 and can be purchased at the box office or online. The show will run until February 3. The Fox Theatre is located at 660 Peachtree Street in Midtown.
Travel down to one of Atlanta Most Historic neighborhoods, Castleberry Hill for their Second Friday Art Stroll on Friday, January 13. According to the neighborhood association, “Castleberry Hill is very fascinating with diverse galleries.” During the Art Walk, neighborhood businesses and restaurants will be open and welcoming you to the neighborhood. Acquaint yourself with the area and buy some new art for your walls. Castleberry Hill is located on Peters Street in Downtown Atlanta.
Check out a movie at your local theatre. Movies like Beauty and the Beast, Contraband, Joyful Noise, Haywire and The Devil Inside will all be released today. Just in time for Friday the 13th, horror movie, The Devil Inside, recreates the films like the Exorcism of Emily Rose. The movie stars Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth and Suzan Crowley. Check local listing or Fandango for movie times. .
