Scuffles have been reported at retail outlets throughout the US as shoppers fought to get their hands on Nike’s new Air Jordan basketball shoes.

A new pair of the retro version of the classic Air Jordan shoes retails at around $180, however they are already listed for sale on eBay for over $500.

The shoes went on sale on Friday with a limited release in retail outlets, and queues started to form hours ahead of shops opening, as the lines of shoppers grew throughout the night they turned increasingly unruly and this resulted in arrests due to criminal damage and violence.

A 20 year-old shopper was stabbed as a result of a fight involving a number of people waiting to buy the shoes at a mall in Jersey City, and in Georgia, police officers reported it was necessary to break a car window in order to release two infants after their mother went to buy the shoes, she was taken into custody as soon as she returned to the vehicle. In Richmond, Caliornia, police officers said that crowds of people wanting to purchase Air Jordan 11 Retro Concords from the Hilltop Mall had been turned away after a gunshot was heard around 7 a.m.
