The much-awaited new Facebook profile feature Facebook is up for installation. The world’s leading social networking site has received a new look, feel and efficiency with Timeline that you can enjoy going to facebook.com/about/timeline. Here is everything you should know about Facebook Timeline. As its name speaks for itself, it is all for keeping your Facebook data, status messages, images and videos in a chronological order. In this article, we preview every feature Timeline introduces to your Facebook profile.
Past in chronologic order
Facebook Timeline realizes a new homepage experience. Things are lined up in a chronological order. If you have been in Facebook for a period, you have all your data on homepage in an order they happened. The day you born, you joined Facebook, graduated, joined a job, resigned the job and all other details will be there. Surfing through the feature, you may sit amazed to get through your old status messages, likes and comments on the site. Without Timeline feature, it was almost impossible for us to dig through the site to retain these details.
Privacy
You have an option to hide images, statuses, videos and shared items from some of your friends especially bosses, clients and others. It is so easy to hide some posts on the new Facebook profile. You just have to click the pencil icon at the top of the particular post to get an option “Hide from Timeline.” On choosing it, the post can be removed.
Tell your life story
Facebook Timeline will help you code your life story quite simply. Someone can sneak into the entire life story of you if he/she gets through your Facebook profile. You have advanced options to add images and videos of your childhood days, marriage and other special events to the profile.
“To add a status update, photo, place check-in, or life event to your Timeline, simply hover the mouse over the line in the center of the page until it turns into a plus sign, and reveals the option to add one of those four types of posts,” says Wired’s Christina Bonnington in her review of Facebook Timeline.
Cover image
Well, you can add a cover image for your “life story.” A large image of your life’s important event can be bannered on the page. It adds more into the attractiveness of your Facebook profile page. The image appears even top of your profile image.
A new layout
The typical Facebook drop-down layout has gone away. Now entire things are arrayed in a way that justifies the chronological order of the profile. Every status has a small window with your profile image, editing tool, like, comment and share options. It is now quite easy to mange your Facebook profile.
Activity log
All your activities on Facebook commenting, sharing, liking, updating and all others are listed in Activity log. You can now easily see what you have done on Facebook in July 2008, the month you got a university gold medal and on occasion of all other important events.
What others say?
According to Facebook, Timeline brings up some revolutionary changes in Cover, Stories and Apps parts of the site. It means you have options to add a cover to the profile, tell your life story and enjoy more apps than before for various purposes.
See what Mashable’s Pete Cashmore says of Facebook Timeline.
“Facebook is about to completely change the way its profile pages look as part of the website’s biggest redesign so far, and only a fraction of the website’s 800 million users seem to have the slightest clue.”
Wrap-up
Facebook continues its domination as the world’s largest social media site with more than 700 million users. The new modification in Facebook profile is to entirely change the way we used to enjoy social features on the site. In fact, we should tell thanks to Google for the recent new features in Facebook. Google’s launch of a strong competitor to Facebook called Google+ has expedited some impressive enhancements in our Facebook profiles.
