QUARTZ (Francois Rohaut/Olivier Peslier) justified sustained market support to land France’s final Listed prize of the year, holding off the challenge of Dinner’s Out.

The daughter of Muhtatir was backed into favouritism at the expense of Prix de Diane fourth Haya Landa, despite the race being her first start in pattern company, after running up a string of placed efforts in handicaps.

“I’m not really surprised as she’s been in good form over the last couple of months,” said a contented Rohaut. “She likes the surface, was drawn well and we had Olivier on board, so everything was in place for a good performance.”

Peslier sat just behind the leaders as Floating World cut out the earlypace.

The only Group 1-placed filly in the field Nonsuch Way was the first to attack in the straight, but she could only stay on in third as the two principals drew clear in the final furlong.

Quartz could now headfor the paddocks according to Rohaut, although no discussion has yet taken place with representatives of owner/breeder the Haras d’Etreham.

“Today was the main objective, as winning a Listed race will be important to her future as a broodmare,” he said.
