Giatmara repairs 2584 houses belonging to the poor

RAUB (Dec 17, 2011) – GiatMara has repaired 2,584 houses belonging to poor families under the “GiatMara Turun Padang” programme until November.

Its chairman Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin said it was 60 percent of the 5,307 old or dilapidated houses targeted for repair under the programme this year.

“The houses of poor families are listed by the district and land office land via registration on e-kasih,” he told reporters here yesterday.

The Rural and Regional Development Ministry provides alocation of RM101.7mil to GiatMara to implement the programme nationwide.

In addition, Shahiruddin said via the programme, 196 houses were also built for the poor this year.

“The government has allocated RM11,000 for house repair and RM33,000 for building a new house in peninsular Malaysia. While in Sabah and Sarawak, RM12,000 has been allocated for house repair
and RM40,000 for building a new house.”

Shahiruddin said GiatMara also offered to repair electrical wiring of houses damaged by flood for free. “Last year, electrical wiring of 2,713 houses were repaired involving allocation of RM8.5mil,” he said.

Flood victims only have to inform village heads or the district office to get the damaged electrical wiring repaired by GiatMara. – Bernama
