Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

What: Salvation Army Turkey Drive
When: Thursday, November 17, 2011
Benefiting The Salvation Army. Donations can be made from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Salvation Army hopes to collect more than 3,000 turkeys. Local celebrities and organizations will be visiting the drive throughout the day to show their support. Bring a turkey or monetary donation to The Salvation Army’s Divisional Headquarters at 2707 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or make a monetary donation by calling The Salvation Army’s Turkey Hotline at (602) 302-8888 (open during drive hours).
What: Annual Calico Boutique
When: Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: North Phoenix Baptist Church Fellowship Building B, 5757 N Central Ave, Phoenix
The Calico Boutique is known for having a variety of vendors including handmade jewelry, clothing, Christmas items, sold directly from the artist or vendor.
What: School Walk for Diabetes
When: Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Where: Madison Heights Elementary School, 7150 N. 22nd Street, Phoenix
Approximately 25.8 million Americans have diabetes and 7 million of them do not even know they have the disease. By participating in School Walk for Diabetes, students at Madison Heights Elementary School actively learn life-long lessons about preventing diabetes and helping others who have the disease. Funds raised from School Walk for Diabetes will help further the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. ASU’s SPARKY will be kicking off the walk with 400 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

What: The Junior League of Phoenix Valley Impact Luncheon
When: Friday, December 2, 2011, 10:30 a.m Silent Auction; Noon Luncheon
Where: Arizona Biltmore Resort, 2400 East Missouri Avenue, Phoenix
Bringing together prominent Valley figures to raise awareness of The Junior League of Phoenix’s focus on early childhood education. This year’s luncheon keynote speaker is Laura Ling, co-author of Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home. Luncheon, Silent Auction and Raffle benefiting The Junior League of Phoenix. Cost: $125 for a single ticket; $1,250 for a table of ten.
What: Native Style: Where Fashion is Heard
When: Friday, December 2, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Heard Museum, Phoenix
The Heard Museum’s fashion show, boutique and luncheon. Native contemporary designs by Orlando Dugi, Penny Singer and Patricia Michaels will ignite the runway, accessorized by stunning jewelry from top designers like Victoria Adams, Marian Denipah, the Gaussoin family, Kenneth Johnson, Steve LaRance, Duane Maktima and Wes Willie. The show will provide a rare opportunity to view vintage couture by iconic Native American designers Lloyd Kiva New, Kay Bennett and others-all from the collection of Robert Black, proprietor of Scottsdale’s retro-chic boutique Fashion by Robert Black. Native Style kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with a reception and pre-sale, followed by lunch and runway show. Music will be provided by leading Canyon Records recording artists Radmilla Cody, Aaron White and Anthony Wakeman. Fashions and jewelry by many designers represented in the runway show will be available for purchase at a private boutique sale, which then opens to the public at 2 p.m. $45 for Heard Museum members, $50 for non-members. What: Holiday for Heroes
When: Saturday, December 17, 2011
Where: Arizona State University West Campus
Helping Hands for Single Moms will host the “Holiday for Heroes” event. They will match sixty-five single mom college student families with sponsors who will provide gifts for the children. Individuals, clubs, offices, and communities of faith are invited to be a “hero” to a single mom college student family by signing up as a sponsor. Each child will have a personalized gift wish list. At the “Holiday for Heroes” event , all “heroes” will meet the mother of their sponsored family and wrap the gifts with her. Sponsor a single mom family for the holidays by registering online now.
