Holiday Helping (10/30/11)

MODESTO GOSPEL MISSION — The Great Thanksgiving Banquet Bundle-Up will be held Nov. 23 at4 p.m. for the needy and homeless in our community. Coats and warm clothing also will be distributed at the dinner. Volunteers will assist with decorations, setup and cleanup, serve dinner, and sort and distribute coats and clothing. Families are welcome to volunteer together (ages 8 to 17 with a responsible adult). Volunteer three-hour shifts begin at 10 a.m. A volunteer orientation and tour will be held Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. Donations of food and coats or winter wear of all sizes for men, women, and children are needed and appreciated.

SALVATION ARMY MODESTO CITADEL — The Thanks-for-Giving Dinner is scheduled for Nov. 24 at noon at Modesto Centre Plaza for needy individuals and families. Volunteers 18 and older, or 12 to 17 with parents, are asked to join the activities by helping set up, clean up, assist with pictures and face painting, serve dinner and more. Volunteer shifts are available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monetary donations and nonperishable/canned foods are needed and appreciated.

SALVATION ARMY RED SHIELD CENTER — The Community Thanksgiving Dinner, co-sponsored by the Red Shield Center and Ceres Rotary, will be held Nov. 18 at5:30 p.m. Volunteers 14 and older are needed to help serve dinner and clean up between 4 and 7:30 p.m. Monetary donations, nonperishable/canned foods and rolls are needed and appreciated.

UNITED SAMARITANS FOUNDATION — Thanksgiving Day Dinner Distribution provides hot holiday meals to the needy in Ceres, Hughson, Keyes, Modesto and Turlock on Nov. 24. Volunteers are needed to assist with dinner preparation, distribute meals from the United Samaritans lunch trucks and clean up after distribution at the Hughson, Modesto and Turlock sites. Volunteer shifts are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. depending upon site. Monetary donations and traditional pre-cooked holiday food items are needed to help provide the 2,000 meals this Thanksgiving.
