Trolley Museum Make a Difference Day event – Trolley Museum of New York, 89 E. Strand St., Kingston. 1-5 p.m. Oct. 22. The Trolley Museum is in need of volunteers to help with cleanup of the historic rail barn and yard before work begins on the track this winter. Food pantry run for Make a Difference Day – Hunns Lake, Stanfordville. 9:30 a.m. Oct. 22. Fourth annual Hunns Lake Food Pantry run. Distances are 2.2 miles and 4.4 miles. Participants asked to pay a nominal fee and donate a bag of nonperishable new food items. Proceeds will benefit four local Dutchess County pantries. Hudson Valley Chapter, American Sewing Guild Make a Difference Day event – Poughkeepsie Plaza, 2600 South Road (Route 9), Poughkeepsie. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 22. Newburgh PathStone Make a Difference Day Event – Various locations, Newburgh. Noon Oct. 22. Volunteers will gather at the PathStone office at 36 Chambers St. and break up into groups, which will head to vacant lots to collect soil samples. Ulster County Habitat Make a Difference Day event – UC Habitat, 406 Route 28, Kingston. Oct. 22. Volunteers should bring personal-care items, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, furniture, tools and building materials to this storage site. Ulster County Habitat and Family of Woodstock are collaborating to collect and distribute the goods to victims of Tropical Storm Irene in Ulster and Greene counties.
