The Bears will be without linemen Gabe Carimi and Matt Toeaina again Sunday but all of their injured players went through a full practice Friday (the week’s lightest, however) and are listed as probable for Sunday: receiver Earl Bennett (chest), tight end Kellen Davis (elbow), receiver Devin Hester (chest), safety Anthony Walters (knee) and safety Major Wright (hip).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not so healthy. They are without center Jeff Faine, and running back LaGarrette Blount did not practice again Friday and is doubtful with a knee injury.
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (ankle) also did not practice and is listed as questionable.
It was a little sobering Friday in the meeting room of the Surrey Court Cricket Club to look up at a very large plaque inscribed with about 50 names and their military ranks. The plaque’s title was “In Memoriam” and the names were those of members who didn’t come back from the Great War, with the dates (1914-1918) also inscribed.
At the bottom was a simple inscription: “They played the game.” And somehow you had the sense that the large display wasn’t just about cricket.
