CONSTITUTION DAY

NICU REUNION
“Graduates” of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital’s Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit are invited to celebrate the 17th anniversary
of the NICU and attend the NICU reunion which will be held Sept.
18, 1-3 p.m., at the Humble Civic Center. The annual reunion, which
will be held in the Civic Center’s Special Events Room, will
include kid-friendly refreshments and clowns providing face
painting and balloons. “Graduates” and their parents also will be

PINEY WOODS WILDLIFE SOCIETY
The first fall meeting of the Piney Woods Wildlife Society will
be Sept. 20 at the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center and will
feature photographs by Frank Farese who believes that one must love
birds to be good at photographing them. He visits sanctuaries,
state parks, wildlife refuges and the coast to find his subjects.

DECORATING AND FLOORING SEMINAR
A seminar titled “Choosing the Right Rug for your Rooms” will be

C.E.R.T. TRAINING
The City of Humble Office of Emergency Management will host
Community Emergency Response Team training Sept. 20-Nov. 8. This is
an eight-week course taught every Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in
Humble. Training will cover hurricane preparedness, fire
suppression, disaster medical training, light search and rescue,
disaster psychology and terrorism prevention. Interested persons

SENIOR OPEN HOUSE
The Lake Houston Family YMCA will host a Senior Open House Sept.
21 from 10 a.m.-noon. The Lake Houston Family YMCA is one of more
than 30 Ys across the Houston area opening their doors for free to
seniors on Sept. 22. The open house will give seniors a chance to
see what the YMCA has to offer, whether it’s exercise classes,

PROSTATE CANCER SCREENINGS
Free prostate screenings will be offered Sept. 24 at the
Memorial Hermann Cancer Center Northeast, 18960 Memorial Drive
North in Humble. Members of the hospital staff will conduct the
screenings which include a prostate specific blood test and a
digital rectal examination. Annual prostate cancer screenings are
recommended for all men aged 50 and older. However, men may be at
higher risk of developing prostate cancer if they are black, have a
family history of the disease and/or consume a diet high in fat.
For those at higher risk, annual screenings should begin at age 40.

DYSLEXIA PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
Parents of students with dyslexia or reading challenges are
invited to attend the group’s next meeting on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at

seeks to empower parents on the journey of identifying, educating

An AARP driving class will be offered Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.-1

Kingwood Garden Club offers scholarships to students who intend
to spend their professional lives pursuing the same mission as KGC
– researching, protecting and fostering horticultural plants, trees
and wildlife. Applicants must have attended Kingwood, Kingwood Park
or New Caney High schools; be a junior, senior in college or a
graduate student; and be majoring in a horticulture- or
