Monday
Good news as the Rye YMCA continues its post-Tropical Storm Irene recovery. For the bikers who like to go nowhere: Rye YMCA Spinning Studio Classes resume today. Stationary bikes were moved to higher floors and were undamaged, and the Spinning Room has been almost completely restored after Blind Brook basement overflow except for a new floor expected to be installed by next week. But that won’t interfere with the Spinning Classes.
Heated Pa Cope Swimming Pool has been drained, cleaned, refilled and is also ready to go. But men’s and women’s lockers are still undergoing renovation. So boys and girls locker rooms must temporarily be shared with adults. Y recommends showering at home if possible, and that parents consider changing their kids into swim togs at home as well.
Also on the Y kiddy front: The Child Care room has reopened. But today’s classes will be held at the Rye Rec McDonald Building and Milton School, but will resume at the Y tomorrow. On all fronts: The nurse is in at the Y today, and the health pro from Greenwich Hospital will be available for a free screening from 9-11 a.m. to check your blood pressure and answer health questions.

Tuesday
Rye Brook Board of Trustees meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall Meeting room, 938 King. St., Rye Brook, to discuss, among other things, considering entering into an IMA with the City of Rye for the construction, maintenance and operation of a sluice gate project to help control Blind Brook flooding after heavy rainfalls wreaking havoc downstream. Rye Nature Center’s weekly ecology classes begin today. Tuesday classes range from Kindergarten Ecology Runs from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. to Wild Outside runs from 3:30-4:30 p.m for K-through-first graders. Rye Art Center’s Music School classes start today. Noteworthy musical offerings range from Suzuki on the Sound to Piano Pals. Other high notes include Guitar Pals, Intro to the Piano and Classical Kids Music. And if you feel like kicking up your heels, there’s adult Ballet and Move, Groove and Be Happy.

The Rye Garden Club will present author Daniel Hinkley discussing “The Forgotten Elements of Good Garden Design” at 10:30 a.m. at the Rye Free Reading Room. Try not to forget the starting time.

If you are over 21 and interested in joining the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound, there will be an informational meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the library.
Recent newbies worked on projects ranging from collecting donations and preparing gift baskets for My Sisters Place Women’s Shelter in White Plains to helping redecorate a a pediatric waiting room at the Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle.
Wednesday
The League of Women Voters will host a discussion with Rye City Mayor Douglas French and City Manager Scott Pickup at 12 p.m. in the Harrison Public Library. Information: 939-7066.

It’s in the cards. Instructor Regina Klenosky, a mah jongg teacher and player for more than 35 years, will instruct participants in the basics of how to play the game of the Ancients. She will instruct would be mah jonggers in the ABCs of how to pass tiles, use essential strategies and make tactical bets. Information: 231-3161.
