Obama’s Vineyard summer retreat listed for sale (slide show)

President Barack Obama’s frequent summer retreat on Martha’s Vineyard is on the market. The asking price of $23.7 million buys a 28-acre compound.

Blue Heron Farm, the expansive Martha’s Vineyard estate and frequent summer refuge for President Barack Obama and his family, is set to hit the market this month for $23.7 million.

The property’s scope and amenities are notable, even by Vineyard standards. The 28-acre compound includes four waterfront lots and five housing facilities, including two main homes as well as a guest house and apartment over an onsite barn. Other details include a 3-hole golf course; a boat house; an equestrian facility; private beaches on Tisbury Great Pond; a movie theater; and a landlocked pool “that feels incredibly private. It’s like a room to itself,” according to Thomas C. Wallace, the listing broker. (Photo slide show, right.)

Wallace said the home has already received serious inquiries from international as well as U.S. residents, adding that several showings have already taken place. He said the first family’s repeated visits to the property — this year marked the third consecutive year the Obamas rented Blue Heron Farm — has not factored into the discussions to date.

“The value of the property has little to do with (the Obamas),” said Wallace, a principal with Wallace Co. Sotheby’s International Realty. “The bottom line, in my mind, is the property is a true retreat.”
