THREE Australian films, including the feature-length Snowtown, will join hundreds of productions from 55 countries to be screened as part of the London Film Festival.
The acclaimed feature film Snowtown, directed by Justin Kurzel and awarded a special mention at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, will make its UK premiere at the event on October 17 and is listed as a “priority booking” by British Film Industry (BFI) organisers.
The 120-minute Snowtown is promoted as the dramatisation of Australia’s most notorious serial killings – the bodies in the barrels murders between 1992 to 1999 in the South Australian town.
Also flying the Aussie flag at the London festival is an eight-minute short film Bear, directed by Nash Edgerton, and The Father, 16 minutes, written and directed by David Easteal.
Bear, which Edgerton helped write and also starred in, was selected to compete in the short film competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Father, which follows character Walter as he leaves prison in search of forgiveness, screened for the first time at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August.
Of his production, Easteal said: “In The Father I wanted to explore the father/child relationship and the bonds that pass down through generations of a family.
“I wanted to show a man’s redemption for his previous actions in a visceral, physical way where it remains unspoken.”
The London Film Festival runs from October 12 to 27 and will screen 204 feature films and 110 short films.
