“This block of buildings gained its current shape in the 1980’s following the restoration of several listed buildings. The first restoration of a block of houses in central Pécs concerned the buildings at 7 Széchenyi Street (Hoitsy House, late-Baroque, late 18th century), number 8 (Piatsek House, eclectic, late 19th century), and 4 Jókai Square (Piatsek House, Romantic, second half of the 19th century).
The Arts Centre (Művészetek Háza) operates in the former Hoitsy and Piatsek Houses.
Outstanding sections of the restored interior are the first floor great hall of 8 Széchenyi Square, its small, galleried library and exhibition hall established in the late-Baroque attic space of building number 7. The restored late-Baroque painted rooms on the first floor of the Hoitsy House are highly regarded.
Hild Courtyard is also worth taking a peek at; it can be entered from three sides of the building. This open courtyard enables pedestrian traffic between the square and the connected streets. Occasional musical events are held here.”
