Give your views on buildings

PEOPLE are asked to give their views on properties nominated for inclusion on a new list of Hartlepool buildings and structures of local significance.

There are already a number of listed buildings in the borough which are acknowledged as being of national importance. But at the moment there is no recognition of buildings which are notable locally.

Hartlepool Borough Council asked people at the end of last year to nominate structures and locations which they thought should be included on the new list.

A draft list has now been prepared, featuring photographs and details of all the 256 nominations, which range from private houses, pubs, farms and churches to shops, factories, war memorials, pill boxes and even a lamppost and a bus shelter.

Sarah Scarr, the council’s lndscape planning and conservation manager, said: “We were delighted by the response to our request for nominations – it certainly struck a chord with people and a wide range of fascinating candidates have been put forward for consideration.”

Photographs and details of all the nominees can be viewed on the council’s website – search for ‘Locally Listed Buildings’ – or at the council’s Bryan Hanson House offices during normal office hours.

Comments can be made by email to landscape.planning@hartlepool.gov.uk or by post to Landscape Planning and Conservation, Bryan Hanson House, Hanson Square, Hartlepool, TS24 7BT.

The closing date for receipt of comments is Friday, September 16.
