Islanders in Guernsey, Alderney and Herm will be given a chance to have their say on the future of the islands’ health and social care reforms.
A survey will run for six weeks, with the aim of helping HSSD formulate their strategy for the future.
It builds on the 2020 Vision approved by the States in May, which seeks to review all aspects of both health and social services and to report back with proposals for the years ahead.
Islanders will be invited to complete a questionnaire about their life, health and views on existing health and social services.
HSSD staff will be in various locations using computerised hand-held devices as well as printed questionnaires.
The first opportunity to contribute your thoughts will be at this week’s North Show, where the Department have set up a “health and wellbeing” tent.
Their next stop will be Market Terrace in town on 10th September, the GuernseyMums 2nd birthday event on 24th September at the Indoor Cricket Centre, and various supermarkets across the island. The process will finish at Beau Sejour on Healthy Hearts Day, 25th September.
Alderney residents will be able to access the survey at Le Mignot Memorial Hosptial. Those who are unable to attend any of the listed events can complete the survey online via the gov.gg website.
HSSD Chief Officer, Mark Cooke said: “We hope that by improving prevention and initial support and care, problems do not develop or are ‘nipped in the bud’ rather than requiring more intensive intervention at a later stage. This will require the public to be involved in promoting a better lifestyle, both in terms of health and social care, and so we need to ensure that this initiative has their support.”
