Anger rises over state of listed building

ANGER has erupted over the state of a 17th century at-risk listed building in Harwich which looks set to be partly torn down.
Councillors have hit out at how Pound Farm in Main Road, Dovercourt, which has been listed since June 1964, has slipped into disrepair with parts even collapsing.
Jo Henderson, Tendring Councillor for Harwich West Central, said: “Harwich and Dovercourt are blessed with a large amount of listed buildings and it is important we don’t lose any of them.”
Harwich Town Council has voted on plans for the building, which propose demolishing a collapsed structure on the site as well as a barn.
Work to stabilise the front of the existing house, a former farmhouse and bakery, is also planned to secure the building before further plans are set in motion to restore it.
Councillors said they did not object to the plan as long as conditions are put on the owners to ensure the front of the building is stabilised immediately and that full restoration takes place on
the remaining listed structures on the site.
Tendring Council has the final say on the plans.
