Fourteen new homes could be built next to a Grade II listed building in Cobham.
Claremont Court Investments Ltd has applied to develop land to the north east of the NY Bar Grill in Portsmouth Road, which was formerly known as the Vermont Exchange and originally the White Lion Hotel.
The company wants to build seven four-bedroom houses and seven two-bedroom apartments on the site, which is currently used as a car park.
A planning statement submitted with the application said: “The proposal represents an opportunity to improve the setting of the adjacent listed building and appearance of the area in general.
“It represents a considered approach to making the most effective use of urban land and does not have an undue impact on the amenities of existing local residents.”
The proposals – reference number 2011/6852 – can be viewed in the Elmbridge Borough Council planning department at the Civic Centre in Esher.
Alternatively, they can be viewed online at www.elmbridge.gov.uk.
Residents have until September 1 to comment on the plans.
