Rose Blossom made all the running to land her first Listed success

EBF ‘Showcasing’ Flying Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) 6f 3yo+ fillies mares

CHAMPION jockey Paul Hanagan got a fine tune out of Rose Blossom as the Richard Fahey-trained filly landed a first Listed success having made all the running.

The line came in time for the 9-2 shot as she held off Darajaat (40-1) and Desert Poppy (7-1). Favourite Dever Dream came there to win her race but she got stopped in her tracks behind the placed horses on the run to the line. A stewards’ inquiry was called, but the result stood.

Fahey’s other runner Sioux Rising is a three-time course and distance winner, but it appears Hanagan went for quality with Rose Blossom and she proved the right one to be on.

The four-year-old bursts out of the stalls and races like an out-and-out speedster, although her career figures over 6f-plus now read three wins and two places from eight starts so it’s not simply the minimum distance that she needs and she’s capable of doing things the hard way from the front as she proved here.

Robin O’Ryan, representing Fahey, said: “She deserved that. She’s a bit of an enigma this filly because people think that she doesn’t get the trip but though she likes to make the running, she tends to prick her ears and idle in front.

“She showed there she gets the 6f well and I’m delighted for her owners Highclere, whothink the world of her.” 

Whether you can take the view that she would have beaten the fourth home Dever Dream had that one got a clear run is dubious, but this was a much-deserved win for a consistent filly who alwaysseems to give her all.

Dever Dream was not the only point of woe for punters in this event as the much-fancied Rimth was well beaten and pretty disappointing even given the fact she once again had to race round the outside, getting too much daylight.
