SOLE POWER remains on track to defend his Coolmore Nunthorpe crown at York on August 19 despite being beaten in Listed company at Tipperary on Friday night.

Sent off the 2-1 favourite, the four-year-old was a never nearer fifth of seven in the Listed Abergwaun Stakes behind fellow Nunthorpe candidate Inxile. However connections werepleased with the performance.

Eddie Lynam, who trained Sole Power to take the Nunthorpe at 100-1 last year, said on Saturday: “He’s on track and will be going to York as planned.”

Sole Power warmed up for his Nunthorpe victory 12 months ago by filling the same position in the Tipperary race.

His performance on Friday had minimal effect on his price for the 5f Group 1, for which he is vying for second favouritism with juvenile Bapak Chinta.

The son of Kyllachy is a general 6-1 chance to win the Nunthorpe behind Hoof It, who is due to be supplemented into the race at a cost of £20,000.
