NAMA launches firesale

ALMOST a third of properties listed this week under NAMA’s control are located in Britain. A total of 193 sites out of 847 are on this side of the Irish Sea.

Of the 32 per cent on the list in Britain, properties are dotted across the country.

Featuring are sites in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Essex, Kent, Isle of Wight, Leeds, Maidenhead, Plymouth, Salford, Sussex, Tyne Wear, Warrington, West Yorkshire, Wigan, Wakefield and Wolverhampton.

Residential houses in London include addresses on Cromwell Road, Clapham Common, Hampstead, Gloucester Road and entire apartment blocks on the Isle of Dogs.

Elsewhere in the capital, the Crowne Plaza hotel on Shoreditch High Street and three sites on Westferry Road in the city’s Docklands also feature. Pubs in Weston-Super-Mare, Hambridge and Seascale, Cumbria appear too, as well as Concorde Business Park in Maidenhead, Berks.

Among the properties in Birmingham are a number on High Street and Irving Street, as well as Connaught Square in Digbeth.

Leeds too has a number of sites listed, including 20:20 House on Skinner Lane. St. Benedicts RC High School on New Hey Road, Wirral can also be found on the list.

Properties subject to enforcement by NAMA in Ireland include golf courses, five-star hotels, and medical centres.

Of the 570 in the Republic, Dublin accounts for 220 properties, followed by Cork, 80, and Limerick, with 52.

NAMA has also taken control of Weston Airport in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, which was owned by the controversial businessman, Jim Mansfield.

Retail units on Dublin’s Grafton Street and a house on millionaire’s row Ailesbury Road are included alongside prime office units in Ballsbridge.

NAMA released the list on its website as it unveiled its annual results.

“We’ve made enormous progress on a wide range of fronts over the past 15 months, and we’re ahead of schedule in respect of many areas,” the agency’s chief executive Brendan McDonagh said. “Our expectation now is that the pace of activity will step up again in the months ahead as we move through the implementation phase of our work.”

Last year NAMA acquired 11,500 loans of 850 debtors. It paid €30.2billion for nominal loan balances of €71.2billion — a 58 per cent discount.
