Wyoming’s only listed Borders or Waldenbooks store in Casper’s Eastridge Mall is among the 399 stores that are going out of business, with sales beginning today and possibly going for a couple of months.
A Casper store spokesman, who asked not to be identified, said seven employees, two full time and five part time, are losing jobs with the closing.
Books, puzzles/games, activity sets, stationery, magazines, music and movie media, calendars, posters, and more will be liquidated, as well as store fixtures, furnishings and equipment at the Casper and all other stores, an estimated $700 million-plus of inventory.
Discounts up to 40 percent are being offered on all merchandise at every location. In addition, customers also can buy store fixtures, such as lighting, shelving and racks. All sales are final. All existing Borders Bucks may be redeemed until they expire on July 31.
Mike Edwards, president of Borders Group, stated, “This marks the end of an era, and we thank our customers for their patronage over our 40-year history.”
The liquidation is being managed by a joint venture composed of Gordon Brothers Group LLC; Hilco Merchant Resources LLC; Great American Group LLC; SB Capital Group LLC; and Tiger Capital Group LLC.
