Part of original Hershey factory listed for sale at $57.9 million – Patriot

Want to own part of Milton Hershey’s chocolate factory? Now’s your chance.

A portion of the original Hershey factory at 19 E. Chocolate Ave. has been listed for sale.

A portion of the 100-year-old historic plant on East Chocolate Avenue recently went up for sale. The asking price: $57.9 million.

The chocolate company’s plan is to sell a portion of the 2 million square-foot plant that has been used for office spaces. It will then lease the office building back and use it as its corporate headquarters.

The company has not disclosed what it plans to do with the remainder of the property, which includes the majority of the chocolate manufacturing facilities; the iconic Hershey smoke stacks and the cocoa silos adjacent to the Norfolk Southern railroad lines.

Production at the original chocolate factory will end next year as The Hershey Co. transitions work to its new West Hershey plant.

When completed, the expanded plant will make Hershey’s syrup, Hershey’s milk chocolate and milk chocolate with almond bars, and Hershey’s Kisses.

The Hershey Co. expects to spend $180 million to $190 million on the project this year.
