Members of the Greater Louisville Association of Realtors sold 5,207 houses in the first half of 2011, a 16 percent decrease from the second quarter of 2010.
The number of homes for sale continued to grow, with 9,313 homes listed for sale as of June 30, a nearly 30 percent increase from the June 30, 2010, inventory of 7,112 homes.
The association attributed the decline in home sales to overly high sales in the first half of 2010 because of the Homebuyer Tax Credit. The average selling price for the first half of 2011 was $160,444, little changed from the first half of 2010, when it was $161,666.
The number of houses sold reached a monthly high for the year in June 2011, with 1,137 sold. That was 23 percent less than the 1,477 sold in June 2010.
