IN BRIEF

Open house

Now that all of the graduation open houses are over, the City of Southfield and Southfield Public Schools are about to hold a Real Estate Open House July 23-24

The Real Estate Open House will run from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday throughout the entire city.

Many homes listed for sale will be open for showings throughout numerous Southfield neighborhoods. Potential homebuyers are encouraged to see all that Southfield has to offer their family. Pre-approved buyers may stop by any Southfield real estate office to pick up a listing of open houses available for sale.

Southfield’s central location puts residents only 20 minutes from almost anywhere in metro Detroit. According to a press release, the city of Southfield also offers:

  • Outstanding city services, parks, golf courses and recreational opportunities;

  • Award-winning Southfield Public Schools — a nationally accredited district; and

  • A wide variety of housing and neighborhood options from urban high rises to single-family homes and condominiums.

    For more information, contact Southfield Community Relations at (248) 796-5130 or visit www.cityofsouthfield.com.

    Green scene

    Surely you have heard of people who shop til they drop?

    Well, that notion is taking on a whole new meaning during this weekend’s Live Green Fair, which concludes July 17, in downtown Ferndale.

    With more than 80 vendors, educational speakers and live music, the second annual fair is designed to connect green users with green providers. It congregates the choices in going green into a consumer-friendly event. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

    Ferndale is never one to drop the ball when it comes to being on the cutting edge of protecting the environment. Now, those who visit the fair can do likewise.

    There will be plenty of options for hands-on interaction and opportunities to drop while you seek out ways to go green. The fun stuff includes:

  • Shoe Drop — Bring your used shoes to the Hiller’s booth and LGF will send them to Africa.

  • Cell Phone Drop — Leave old phones at the ATT booth and they will provide free phone calls home for U.S. military personnel.

  • Computer Drop-off — Bring used computers to the Whole Foods booth and LGF will recycle.

    The Live Green Fair is organized into different sections with a Green Home Show, a free veggie taste fair, a section on environmentally aware art and, finally, a section on holistic enlightenment, meaning the spiritual aspects of green living.
