Coco’s no clown in big one

Newsboy On Newmarket Wild Coco is ready for the step up to Listed company in the Aphrodite Stakes (2.35) at Newmarket this afte rnoon.

The daughter of Shirocco didn’t see a racecourse at two and was an easy-to-back 14-1 shot for her first start, in a 10-furlong maiden at Newmarket in May.

But she ran a race full of promise in finishing second to Lyric Street, getting the hang of things late on under Tom Queally to be beaten a length and a half.

Sir Henry Cecil sent the selection over a mile and a half for a similar event at Haydock at the second time of asking and Wild Coco duly sauntered in by eight lengths from Thubiaan.

Cecil has opted to send the selection into Listed company rather than tackle handicaps, and Wild Coco looks capable of making another leap forward.

After a luckless run at Ascot eight days ago, NELSON’S BOUNTY is worth another chance in the unpublished.co.uk Handicap (3.10).

The Paul D’Arcy-trained four-year-old finished last of 10 behind Rave in a onemile handicap on the Royal heath, but that doesn’t tell anything like the whole story.

Pinned against the inside throughout the final quarter mile under Tony Culhane, who makes way for Darryll Holland today, Nelson’s Bounty never got the chance to show what he could do.

The son of Bahamian Bounty is better judged on his first two starts of 2011 – beginning with a success at Ascot in April.

Next time Nelson’s Bounty was done few favours by racing down the middle of the track over the Rowley Mile, and may still be able to make an impact from his current mark.
