Rose Bowl Stakes – Sponsored by Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd (Listed) 6f, 2yo
YARMOUTH maiden winner Saigon took the step up to Listed level in his stride when he landed the Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury on Friday.
Sent off a 6-1 shot, Saigon picked up well for Kirsty Milczarek to beat 9-2 chance Caspar Netscher by a neck.
Factory Time, the 4-1 joint-favourite with the unplaced Wise Venture, lost his unbeaten record when he finished third.
“I’ve only got 18 horses so it’s nice to have another good one,” said winning trainer James Toller.
“He didn’t get the clearest passage early, I think he got crossed and clipped heels so he has done well to win. I hope he is quite nice and this looked a decent race. He hasn’t got any big entries but we can make some now and he could come back in the autumn for the Mill Reef.”
Toller also paid tribute to his jockey. “She has done very well for me and I can’t think of a race she should have won that she hasn’t and she works really hard,” he added.
Milczarek, who was on Saigon when he won at Yarmouth, added: “They’ve been more quality winners this year and I keep tipping away and don’t mind going to Wolverhampton or Southwell but this was a massive bonus.”
