TORONTO – Major league home run leader Jose Bautista left Thursday night’s game against the New York Yankees with a twisted right ankle. He is listed as day-to-day.

Leading off the fourth inning, the Toronto Blue Jays slugger beat out an infield single but appeared to catch the bag hard in beating Derek Jeter‘s throw.

Later in the frame, he slid into third base as Edwin Encarnacion hit into an inning-ending double play, and Bautista came up clutching at his ankle.

He collapsed to the ground and stayed there for several minutes until walking off the field on his own.

John McDonald replaced him at third base to start the fifth.
