The Greensboro Race Series has made scheduling changes, most notably adding the Bryan YMCA’s Bookbag Breakaway 5K on Aug. 13 as its next event.
The Bookbag Breakaway will be the series’ fifth event, and four races are scheduled to follow.
Scott Bassett, whose On the Mark Sports company is teaming with Omega Sports in the series’ inaugural year, also confirms that the Retro Run, which had been the next listed event at the series site but without a date, would be a night event Sept. 24, starting and finishing at the Tap Room. The Retro Run will follow the Bookbag Breakaway on the schedule.
Bassett also says the GO FAR 5K on Nov. 5 in High Point has been dropped from the schedule.
The remaining schedule:
Aug. 13: Bookbag Breakaway 5K, 8 a.m., Bryan YMCA (501 W. Market St., Greensboro).
Sept. 24: Retro Run 5K, time TBA (evening), Tap Room (1740 Battleground Ave., Greensboro).
Oct. 8: Cannonball Run half-marathon and 5K, 8 a.m., Country Park (3905 Nathanael Greene Dr., Greensboro).
Nov. 12: Free to Breathe 5K, 9 a.m., NewBridge Bank Park (Lindsey and Bellemeade streets, Greensboro).

The Greensboro Race Series is a year-long competition that awards points to runners based on high finishes and participation. The series will conclude with the Greensboro Gobbler on Thanksgiving Day.
Points are awarded to runners in these age groups: 0-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+. A race winner earns 50 points, with second place getting 45 and others following in five-point increments down to 10 points for ninth-place finishers. Tenth place and other participants earn five points.
With financial backing from Omega Sports, the series will offer shirts to anyone competing in seven events, cash awards to the top finishers, age-group awards and more than $6,000 worth of prizes. Competitors in the 19-and-under group are not eligible for prizes because runners receiving cash or merchandise could become ineligible to compete in college athletics.
The series has scored 806 women and 962 men. Full standings can be found here.
