Lake Murray Fireworks are on!

(Mission Valley News, San Diego, CA) – The Lake Murray
Fireworks are on!  At long last after many starts and stops, the all-volunteer committee
that puts on the annual Lake Murray Fireworks show finally received the go
ahead late Friday for the show. Thanks
to litigation by environmental lawyer Marco Gonzalez regarding fireworks over
bodies of water, the City of San Diego didn’t have many answers until the last
minute.

The committee faced many expected and some unexpected issues
with the State of California and the City of San Diego. The committee satisfied
the requests and demands made by various departments and they finally got the
go ahead to move forward. While they won’t
say so publicly, they received very little support from the city or their
elected officials and literally waited until they finally got the word to
proceed.

Unfortunately due to a lack of donations and the uncertainty
facing the annual event, there will be no music or booths or formal picnicking this
year – but don’t let that deter you from showing up at Lake Murray Park or anywhere
else in the area to celebrate our nation’s birthday.

The community owes a debt of thanks to the Music Fest
Committee (Don Brennan, Jay Wilson and John Pilch) and those who supported the
event this year.

Donations are still being sought to help defray some of the
costs. If you’d like to donate, please
