MUNICIPAL: Chatham property listed

Posted 18 hours ago

TREVOR TERFLOTH

The Daily News

Although his house is listed for sale, the municipality’s chief administrative officer insists his career situation hasn’t changed.

Rob Browning’s Balmoral Road property is mentioned in local real estate advertisements and his ownership confirmed in a title search.

However, in a voicemail message, he said if anything changed regarding his work status with the municipality, there would be a notification.

Browning’s partner, Kathy Weiss, who is also listed on the title, stepped down as Chatham-Kent’s economic development director to take a similar position with the Region of Durham in May.

She had been on the job for 19 months. Browning, who was previously an administrator with the City of Kitchener, has been with the municipality since late 2008.

A Blenheim property which he acquired in that year is still listed in his name.

In a previous interview after Weiss’ resignation, Mayor Randy Hope said the CAO indicated that he is in the community for the long term.

The municipality is still in the process of recruiting a permanent economic development director, with existing staff filling in during the meantime.

lots of room for speculation and gossip. what is going on between there long distance marriage is not our business until it starts costing tax dollars. joe pavelka wrote the manual on how to get taxpayers to finance hotel suites and travel costs. personally i don;t think browning is going to stay. something was fishy about that whole affair, and somebody is going to have to explain why mr. boutin’s condo still did not get started in june as promised yet again. i notice that the new director of economic development is not being hand-picked by a headhunter like weiss was either. this kind of charade is what we get when the sole criteria for picking a cao was, according to the corporate review, the ability to get along with an abrasive egotistical and unintelligent mayor. the sooner that chapter is closed behind us the sooner chatham-kent might prosper.

Typical “small town” mentality if you think this is “news”! Mr. Terfloth must have had a very boring day to submit this drivel and the editor hopefully was on holidays for there is no excuse for this item to leave his desk! Wake up Chatham Daily News! We want news worth reading!

Let’s see – the guy has a house in chatham and blenheim – likely two more that some writing in here- and has one for sale . The fact that it is news is a simple reflection on our insistence on concentrating on the negative and speculative issues in our community. If we insist on acting in a small minded and petty we should not be surprised if those outside see us that way .

on the contrary hotdamm37, it would be hard to do much worse then mr. hope. if you can look at the present state of affairs in chatham-kent and be satisfied then maybe you are part of the problem too. we should be doing much better. these people in charge are wasting our potential playing games with condo mirages and board games and election scams when their is important work to be done to benefit the rest of us. chatham-kent lags CANADA in economic recovery with mayor fonzie in charge,,not a source of pride by any measure. it won;t get better until people like you start to demand and expect better. stop feeding his ego until he delivers some big results for once or at least demonstrates he is honestly trying.

Why try to improve the municipality you serve when you know that you can win an election based on name recognition? This is what the majority wanted and when I say majority, I mean those who couldn’t spare 5 minutes to vote in the last municipal election.

When you have a majority sit home, not vote and a dozen want to be mayors, the incombent will alway win.I don’t think Mr. Hope even campained.
The point is the guy has a one house for sale, but has more then one. so who cares if he sells one? Now if he wants to move closer to where Wiess works, like out of kent county, that’s another thing.
