What did you do last weekend?
That’s probably a common question you get Monday mornings from your friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Now, how many of you can say you actually got out and did something fun?
Sometimes we all get caught up in the daily routine of life and forget how important it is to get out and have some fun. This July we’re giving Tallahassee a reason to get out and explore the city’s vast array of parks and recreation programs.
To celebrate National Parks and Recreation month, the city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs (PRNA) Department is issuing the citizens of Tallahassee a challenge. A recreation challenge, that is.
We’ve created a list of 10 exciting events and programs that you can attend. We’ve listed these events on a special flyer. Attached to the flyer is a special “challenge card” that you can pick up at recreation locations around town and at our Fourth of July celebration at Tom Brown Park. We’ll announce these locations and times on Talgov.com/parks and to our Facebook and Twitter followers June 30.
We’ve included several great events and venues for our challenge. We start out with the big Celebrate America festivities on July 4 at Tom Brown Park and finish up with the finale of our Summer Concert Series at Kleman Plaza on July 30. In between, you’ll be able to see our new teen center, visit one of our recreation centers or enjoy one of our signature parks such as Tom Brown. You’ll also have a chance to come out to our Animal Service Center and help out with their bloodmobile event July 9. Come out and donate blood and you can receive a voucher for a free adoption.
If that wasn’t enough, we’ll also give you a chance to play some tennis, hike or bike a trail and splash around at a city pool. In other words, we’ll show you where the fun begins in Tallahassee.
Your next step is simple: pick-up your flyer and “challenge card” and visit at least five of the 10 events and you’ll get your challenge card punched for every event you attend. Once you get five punches on your challenge card, simply drop your signed challenge card off at any of our challenge events and you’ll receive a neat prize and be entered in our grand-prize drawing. We’ll announce the grand-prize winner on Facebook and Twitter on Monday, Aug. 8.
