Mr Sciame told the Wall Street Journal he had purchased the property with the
intention of renovating it and selling it, but then his family “fell in love
with it” and spent summers there,

The property is located in the Fenwick borough of Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Mr Sciame’s renovations included raising the main house by 5ft. He divided the
estate into three lots which are available to buy separately.

The largest, which includes the main house and a dock, is listed for $18
million (£11.4 million.)

Hepburn died at the estate and was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford,
Connecticut. A theatre was built to honour her in Old Saybrook.

In her six decade Hollywood career she won four Oscars for Best Actress, a
record, having been nominated 12 times.
