Margot Did – could go to York

Michael Bell believes that dual Listed winner Margot Did has earned a crack at the Nunthorpe Stakes.

The filly followed up an impressive Sandown win at Ayr on Saturday and gained just reward for a string of near-misses.

There is a possibility she could run in the Coral Charge on Eclipse day back at Sandown but she could also head straight to York.

“We’re going to see how she takes the race and the initial signs are that she’s fine,” said Bell.

“There’s a Group Three at Sandown on Eclipse day where she’s a course-and-distance winner which we’ll consider, but if we swerve that for one reason or another, we’ll freshen her up for the Nunthorpe.

“The allowances are not that great for three-year-old fillies, it’s the two-year-olds who get all the weight but it looks an obvious race to have a crack.

“She’s a sprinter bang in form and running to the best of her ability.

“Dropping her back to five furlongs and letting her make the running has played a major part and it would be interesting to see what happened if we did the same over six.

“She was being closed down on Saturday but it was her second run in a week and the ground was softer than she likes. She won with Hayley (Turner) being as kind as possible to her.

“It was an afterthought to run her but I’m glad we did. To win two stakes races is no mean achievement and hopefully she can go on and win a Group race now.”
