More than 600 Memphis area open houses scheduled this weekend

Are you looking for the right one, but not ready for a committed relationship?

Want to shop around?

Breeze in, breeze out?

If so, the Realtors’ National Open House Weekend Saturday and Sunday could be the right matchmaker.

Open houses “provide wonderful opportunities for folks who may not have a (real estate) representative or may just happen by the property and just casually drop in to see what’s available on the market,” said Teresa Coop, a Realtor with Benchmark at Southwind.

She’ll conduct one of the 600-plus open houses in the Memphis area this weekend. That’s double the typical weekend of about 300 open houses.

Blue balloons will mark the houses.

Coop’s will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 4652 Ashglen Circle in Collierville.

It’s a seven-year-old home of more than 2,300 square feet with four bedrooms and 2.5 baths. List price is $231,900.

“The lady who lives there is a decorator,” Coop said. “Beautiful colors.”

In Bartlett, real estate agent Mindy Creech of Remax on Track is staging an open house 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at 9132 Pembroke Ellis.

It’s a foreclosure, but the bank has painted it, installed new carpet and done some repairs.

The four-bedroom, three-bath home is listed at $184,900.

“We priced it competitively to the rest of the houses in the neighborhood,” Creech said. “It’s a Freddie Mac foreclosure. Their goal is to not drop prices in the neighborhood. It’s a little low but not ridiculously low.”

Creech doesn’t hold a lot of open houses. She’s not experienced big turnouts for them in her eight years in the business.

“We’re participating in this one because of so much national and local advertisement,’’ she said. “We’re hoping to get a good crowd out.”

Coop held nine open houses last year, and two of them resulted in sales.

“I am a believer of open houses,” she said. “… It’s an old tradition that I think still works very well.

“We have a lot of informed buyers out there who are doing their own homework. That’s the way they prefer to do business.”
