Some of London’s finest workplaces have been recognised for excellence in the British Council for Offices’ annual London and South East Awards. Over 500 property professionals gathered at the Marriott Grosvenor Square last week, to hear who had won Awards in this year’s London and South East competition.

Winning the category for best Project up to 2,000 sq mtrs was North House, 27 Great Peter Street, which provides government office space in Westminster.

Designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, North House was a transformation and restoration project of two Grade II listed properties which were built in the 1930s. The separate houses were altered during the 60s and 70s by government departments to create offices. The challenge for the architects was to create exceptional 21st century private offices while reconciling level differences and the demands of local conservation officers.

North House scooped the award for the large scale refurbishment to make the historic building fit for purpose for the 21st Century, whilst celebrating, rather than ignoring, the age and style of the building.

Richard Kauntze, Chief Executive of the BCO, commented: “This is the third year for the BCO regional awards and we’re excited to see the bar raised by this year’s entrants. The competition was fierce, with London proving once again that they are at the forefront of top quality design and functionality. We’re thrilled that developers continue to produce first class workspaces and it’s clear to see that the future is bright for London offices.”

Other awards went to offices in Midtown, Canary Wharf, Clerkenwell and the City of London.
