There are a number of area events Monday in honor of Memorial Day.

VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA, WHITE ROSE CHAPTER 1032 OF YORK will present a wreath 9 a.m. at Vietnam Veterans Memorial, York Fairgrounds, 334 Carlisle Ave., West Manchester Township. Everyone welcome.
YORK COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE will be 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 941 Vander Ave., York. Iraq War veteran and U.S. Army Reserve Col. Craig Trebilcock will be keynote speaker. This year’s Memorial Day celebration will feature recognition of Korean War veterans from York County. The honorees will be presented a certificate recognizing their service. Other attendees will include York County commissioners, U.S. Rep. Todd Platts and several Pennsylvania legislators.
RED LION’S MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND SERVICES, sponsored by the Red Lion Memorial Day Parade and Service Committee of Red Lion American Legion Post 543 and Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1446. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. traveling north on Main Street to west on Broadway to south on Franklin to east on Boundary Avenue to Fairmount Park. The Memorial Service will follow the parade at Red Lion Memorial Shaft on the Boundary Avenue side of Fairmount Park. In case of extreme weather, the Memorial Service will be held in the auditorium of Red Lion Area Senior High School. To participate in the parade, call the American Legion at 244-4828.
144TH MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND CEREMONIES, downtown Gettysburg, Lincoln Square, Gettysburg, www.nps.gov, 334-6274, 2 p.m.
89TH ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE will be 10 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1674 Furnace Road, Chanceford Township. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Chester Joines. Children are invited to help decorate the cemetery immediately following the service. A luncheon will be served by members of the church following the service. Everyone is invited to attend this special service to honor all who have served our great country.
MEMORIAL DAY STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL, hosted by McKendree United Methodist Church, 3708 Delta Road, Lower Chanceford Township, will begin at 4 p.m. Items for sale are ham bean and chicken corn soups, hot beef and hot chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, beef and pork barbecue sandwiches, cold chicken and ham sandwiches, salad plates, fresh strawberries and ice cream, a variety of homemade pies and cakes, coffee, tea and punch. Carryouts will be available. Please bring containers for carryout soup. There will also be baked goods for sale.

MEMORIAL DAY YORK GOLD STAR 5K RUN, to benefit Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing Peace Garden, will begin at 7:30 a.m. for both the 5K run and the 9-mile “Tour the Memorials” at Memorial Park, 901 Vander Ave., York. Registration and packet pickup open at 6:30 a.m. Entry fee is $20 day of race. The Gold Star Memorial Gardens will be built at the site of the start/finish. For details, call Jeff Hines at 718-2953.
