Newmarket is the venue for today’s first recommended bet

“We start with Newmarket and in the 14:50 Listed Fairway Stakes Luca Cumani’s Naqshabban has been steadily supported all morning into [2.46] from a high of [3.0]. This is only his third career start but he has already shown a good level of ability having beaten Musidora winner Joviality on his seasonal return.”

Two backs and one lay on a big racing day.

We start with Newmarket and in the 14:50 Listed Fairway Stakes Luca Cumani’s Naqshabban has been steadily supported all morning into [2.46] from a high of [3.0]. This is only his third career start but he has already shown a good level of ability having beaten Musidora winner Joviality on his seasonal return. The trainer always leaves something to work on for further down the line, so improvement is surely guaranteed. And although he has never tried this trip before, he shaped like he’d comfortably cope with it based on his Sandown run. Although the field has plenty of other unexposed horses in the line up, none look to have the potential of this one.

Up to Haydock now and in the 16:45 Maiden Stakes there has been quite a plunge on Farang Kondiew. Opening at [14.0] he now trades at [5.6] with punters seemingly quite taken with his debut run. He went off favourite that day, in what looked quite a trappy maiden, that has worked out well. He shaped with a good deal of promise making some nice late headway after looking green early, including missing the break. It should be noted Thirsk is quite a sharp track and it’s much harder to come from the back, borne out by the experienced winner of that race having made all that day. The main opposition appears to be in the form of Richard Hannon’s Pink Sapphire, a very well-bred filly for the Coolmore breeding operation; she does look worth taking on though over the minimum against some more experienced rivals. Farang Kondiew looks the one to be with.

In a day of relatively few serious drifters, we head over to Ireland where in the 17:35 1m2f European Breeders Fund Race at Navan, Creekside has been on the drift. A pleasing winner on debut, he certainly looks to hold the most amount of scope of these. However, early prices of around [1.77] were much too short and he has now drifted to a more realistic [2.36]. This arguably still over rates his chances as there are some formidable stables in opposition, including the Ballydoyle powerhouse of Aiden O’Brien and also respected trainer Dermot Weld. Furthermore, the maiden Creekside won had plenty of runners but looked devoid of any serious class, being an early season maiden at one of the more provincial tracks. So there seems plenty of reason to take on this well-bred 3 year old.
