BATED BREATH is as short as 10-1 for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot after he scored a smooth victory at Windsor on Monday.

Trained by Roger Charlton, Bated Breath, the 15-8 favourite, tracked long-time leader Libranno and quickened well under Steve Drowne to record the fifth win of his career.

Triple Aspect, successful in the race last year, was second at 7-2, while Libranno, a 5-1 chance, held on for third from the staying-on Monsieur Chevalier, who was running for the first time in 596 days.

While Bated Breath can still be backed at 16-1 for the Golden Jubilee, Coral and Bet365 offer only 10-1, but Charlton did not commit the son of Dansili to Royal Ascot.

“He’s a nice horse and did it well,” Charlton said. “He just missed the break and Steve had to position him, which just set him alight. He was fine then and settled well.

“I’d like to talk to the owner [Khalid Abdullah]. There’s the option of him jumping into a Group 1 race – or there is a Group 3 after Royal Ascot at Newcastle [the Chipchase Stakes on June 25].

“We’ll see how he is. He’s gradually progressing though and deserves to run in a Group 1 at some stage.”
