Godolphin’s Badeel is among three Investec Derby entries attempting to make a very late Classic play in the IBA Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The Listed race, which is held in place of a trial which was known as the Predominate Stakes, was won last year by Godolphin’s subsequent Derby third Rewilding.

The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Badeel has landed two of his three starts including a handicap at Nottingham earlier this month.

Henry Cecil’s Picture Editor, considered to have Derby potential but used as an intended pacemaker for Frankel in the Greenham Stakes, and the John Gosden-trained Masked Marvel are the other two still in the mix for Epsom.

Useful pair Namibian and Auld Burns complete the five declared runners.

Beatrice Aurore and Date With Destiny, the only daughter of George Washington, are the two with Oaks entries among the seven-runner field for the Casco Height of Fashion Stakes on the same card.

However, John Gosden’s useful pair Highest and Imperial Pippin could be going on trial for the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, with Poplin, Metropolitain Miss and Belle Royal ensuring a good standard for the Listed event.
