A belated visit from U2, a big step up for Taylor Swift and a bevy of familiar summer travelers dominate Michigan’s upcoming concert calendar.
With Friday’s announcement of schedules for DTE Energy Music Theatre, Meadow Brook Music Festival and events such as the Stars Stripes festival, we’ve got a full picture of what’s ahead as metro Detroit revs up for one of its beloved traditions: music in the summertime.
The bottom line? As is customary, the season is dominated by older, time-tested road warriors, but summer 2011 also finds an uptick in tours from younger hot acts, including Rihanna, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, who leaps to stadium status with a June 11 show at Ford Field.
Rockers Kings of Leon, country powerhouse Sugarland and party-popster Ke$ha will help bring a youthful glow to DTE, where the roster of 60-plus shows includes a host of baby-boomer faves.
Swift leads a busy stadium summer that includes U2 at Spartan Stadium and Kenny Chesney at Ford Field — and an expected pair of Kid Rock shows at Comerica Park in August.
While the bulk of the schedule is now set, there’s still more to come, including details on tours from Foo Fighters, Blink-182 and Uproar hard rock fest.
