McQuaid listed as day-to-day

Boston Bruins defenceman Adam McQuaid is listed as day-to-day with a sprained neck, Boston head coach Claude Julien said on Tuesday.

McQuaid crashed heavily into the boards on Monday while trying to check Philadelphia Flyers Mike Richards in Game 2 of the teams’ NHL best-of-seven playoff series in Philadelphia.

McQuaid, who stayed down on the ice for several minutes, was taken to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, but he traveled back to Boston with the team after the game.

Julien said X-rays on McQuaid have come back negative.

The Cornwall native skated with the team on Tuesday.

If McQuaid can’t go for tonight’s Game 3 in Boston, Shane Hnidy could be his replacement.

Steven Kampfer skated Tuesday for the first time since suffering a knee injury back in April.

The Bruins lead the Eastern Conference semifinal series 2-0 after posting a 3-2 overtime win on Monday.

McQuaid has three assists, a plus-four rating and no penalty minutes in nine playoff games with the Bruins.

In last season’s playoffs, he skated in nine games before injuring his leg and missing the rest of the post-season.
