Osama bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist, is said to be dead on the first of May, 2011, with the date proving to be Mayday, and Osama’s Wikipedia entry updated within minutes of the news going global.

The world’s most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden, is wanted no longer, for the US Government has reported bin Laden’s death on May 1, 2011, during a “firefight”.
Bin Laden’s Wikipedia entry now states that “On May 1, 2011, U.S. President Barack Obama announced on national television that bin Laden had been killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan and that his body was in U.S. custody.”
Naturally, the news has erupted across the Internet, with terrorist haters undoubtedly rejoicing and terrorist lovers sure to state that Osama bin Laden has been “martyred” in the cause against the so-called “devil” that is the United States of America.
Fairfax Newspapers are reporting that US President Barack Obama said he’d “made the killing or capture of bin Laden his top priority on taking office”, and he’d been made aware of bin Laden’s location in Pakistan in August, with the operation to get bin Laden authorised only “last week”.
So, although it has taken a decade to capture the world’s most wanted terrorist, and while it only took minutes for bin Laden’s Wikipedia entry to be updated, the war on terrorism is clearly not over yet, with likely years to go before any true resolution can ever be achieved.
The death of Osama bin Laden does at least show that the US Military still has what it takes to “get their man”, with the world now waiting to see what bin Laden’s successors do in response.
Expecting the unexpected is likely the best policy, although if you’re a terrorist, you can certainly expect to eventually be captured and potentially killed.
You can also be sure that whatever happens next, the Internet and its billions of users will ensure that the world knows about it – in as close to real time as possible!
