Brian Fletcher has no concerns about the Hawkesbury meeting going ahead on Saturday despite Sydney’s wet weather this week.
Hawkesbury was rated a heavy (8) on Thursday with the club’s chief executive saying the track on Sydney’s western outskirts had received 40 millimetres of rain since last Friday.
“We’ll be on,” Fletcher said.
“We don’t seem to have had the amount of rain Sydney has had and if we raced now it would be a heavy eight.
“We’re just hoping for some break in the weather, but there are no concerns with the meeting going ahead.”
The meeting, which holds metropolitan status and features three Listed events, attracted 112 acceptors across the eight races when final fields were declared on Thursday.
Noted wet tracker Mr Unforgettable has been installed the $4.20 favourite for the Listed $150,000 Rowley Mile (1600m) while last-start PJ Bell Stakes runner-up Steps In Time heads the Listed $150,000 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) market at $3.20.
In the day’s other feature, the Listed Darley Crown (1300m), Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley team will be represented by four mares – Dysphonia, Kanzan, Jerezana and Screen – in the race it sponsors.
Last weekend’s Sydney Cup meeting at Randwick was run on a heavy track and Monday’s Randwick fixture was one shower away from being called off mid-program.
Thursday’s Wyong meeting was postponed after three races due to the wet weather and poor visibility.
