Inxile strikes again for Nicholls

Inxile put up a game front-running performance to land a second Listed victory in the space of a week in Ireland.

Following a comfortable win at Naas last Saturday, Dandy Nicholls’ busy six-year-old made it a quick double in the Cork Stakes, the feature race at the Mallow track.

Smartly away in the hands of Nicholls’ son Adrian, the 10-11 favourite grabbed the near-side rail and when it looked as though he might face a stiff challenge, he kept on finding a bit more and scored by three lengths from Katla.

“He wouldn’t want the ground much quicker than this and he’s likely to be back in Ireland for the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh on Guineas weekend,” said the winning trainer.

David Wachman landed a treble, with two of them ridden by Wayne Lordan and the other by Seamie Heffernan.

His newcomer Azores, a half-sister to Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire, was heavily backed into 7-2 before the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden, but she was edged out by her stable companion Sapphire Pendant.

Billy Lee looked to have the race sewn up when he took over in the straight on Azores, but Heffernan pounced late and nudged his mount out to score by a neck at 33-1.

The Wachman yard has a very speedy type in Requinto, who was third on his debut at Leopardstown earlier this month and stepped up on that to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race.

Quickly into the lead, the 1-2 favourite put the contest to bed when Lordan asked him to quicken two furlongs out, and he beat Ishvana by three and a half lengths.

Wachman completed his treble when Giant Step (13-8) ran away with the Best Dressed Lady Gent (CG) Maiden, winning by five and a half lengths in the hands of Lordan.
