Built in 1883, 31 Bishop St. caught the eye of a Sotheby’s-trained British antique specialist, who recognized the historical significance of the house and its rare location on a dead-end street in Yorkville. However, the house wasn’t listed for sale at that time and the person had to wait 35 years before it was on put the market.

The antique specialist, who is the current owner, bought the house in 2005 and renovated and restored the 19th-century home.

The Scottish-style cottage has numerous antique elements that were hand-selected and “seamlessly built into the newly renovated interior,” the homeowner says. A 19th-century solid mahogany newel post and banister from a Victorian house in The Annex, seven solid walnut antique doors from an Edwardian mansion in Forest Hill and a circa 1880 cast iron fireplace from a former governor’s country house in Gananoque were incorporated into the house

The home has a vaulted ceiling, floor-to-ceiling wood and stainless steel cabinetry and professional grade stainless steel appliances. French doors lead to a south-facing garden.

Meals can be enjoyed in the formal dining room or the patio garden. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom home has custom millwork, high baseboards and floor-to-ceiling double closets.
