Homes a step closer

Proposals to build 30 new homes in Echt came a step closer this week with the submission to Aberdeenshire Council of a detailed planning application.

Following the granting of outline planning permission to Dunecht Estates and the conclusion of an agreement between the estate and Sauchen-based housebuilder Kirkwood Homes Limited to buy land at Echt (to the north of the B9119 between the Old Post Office and Myriewell Cottages), Kirkwood Homes has now submitted the detailed planning application seeking approval of the matters specified in conditions for the development.

Once approved, 30 three, four, five and six-bed executive homes will be developed at the edge of the village, a short walking distance from Echt Primary School.

Allan Rae, land director at Kirkwood Homes, said: “We are delighted to have concluded this deal with Dunecht Estates and look forward to successful consideration of our application by Aberdeenshire Council in due course, to enable Kirkwood Homes to begin development of this hugely sought-after development.

“As well as meeting the requirements of the Echt Development Brief that was approved by Aberdeenshire Council in September 2006, we have listened to the overall views of the local community to ensure that the development proposals produce a mix, quality and design of housing, which not only complements the character of the village, but importantly meets with acceptance from the local community. I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to thank local residents for their input to our consultation, and provide a commitment to continue to engage with the community as the development progresses.”

A spokesman said that following a public exhibition last October, attended by around 100 people, it was evident that residents welcomed the proposal, as it would provide additional family housing which not only ensures future growth and investment for the area, but provides a platform for local services to be maintained, as well as safeguarding the continued need for a school at Echt.

Kirkwood Homes hopes to begin work on the development this summer and say there has already been interest from a range of potential buyers.

* The company last week announced an initial release of its proposed development of 24 luxury homes and five listed steading conversions at Craig Elachie Gardens, Monymusk, selling 11 houses and generating over £ 3.1m of sales within the first week of release.
