Blue Hawks pick up a few wins at SDSU rodeos

    BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Dickinson State rodeo team had a handful of winners during a pair of two-day rodeos hosted by South Dakota State.

    At the first rodeo, held on April 7 and 8, the Blue Hawks dominated the roughstock events.

    Troy Vaira won the bareback riding with a combined score of 148. Ty Thompson won the saddle bronc with a 146 and Kaden Deal was second in 130.

    DSU had better luck at the second rodeo, held April 9 and 10.

    Isaiah Pemberton won the tie-down roping with a two-day combined time of 23.2 seconds.

    Deal was the only cowboy to score rides both days and finished with a combined 134.

    DSU’s Drew Gartner and Levi Tyan of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture won the team roping with a combined time of 12 seconds.

    Kobi Olineck and Katy Pfleger finished second and third, respectively, in the breakaway roping with combined times of 6.5 and 6.6 seconds.
